Home-seekers flocked to apply for bigger Build-to-Order (BTO) flats in Toa Payoh and Sembawang in HDB’s first sales exercise of 2020.
High Demand for Bigger Flats
Sembawang’s Canberra Vista, located next to Canberra MRT station, had more than 10 applicants lodged for each of the 266 five-room and three-generation flats. The 385 four-room flats offered were pretty popular as well, attracting more than six applicants each. A clear reason they are a hot pick is because of its attractive location – occupying a prime spot right next to an MRT station alongside new amenities like shopping malls.
The demand was just as intense in Toa Payoh – Kim Keat Ripples and Toa Payoh Ridge – where the 1,211 four-room flats (the biggest flat type) attracted more than 10,000 applications. That means each available flat had about eight applicants. The 102 three-room flats in Toa Payoh Ridge, located between Caldecott and Braddell MRT stations, drew four applicants per unit.
Upcoming BTO exercises
In May 2020, 3,700 flats in Choa Chu Kang, Pasir Ris, Tampines, and Tengah will be launched. While in August 2020, there will be 4,100 flats in Ang Mo Kio, Bishan, Geylang, Tampines, and Woodlands. For those who dread the long wait, you’ll be pleased to know that the upcoming BTO launch in Choa Chu Kang (May 2020) and Tampines (August 2020) will have a shorter waiting period.
If you’re not sure where to start, here’s a step-by-step guide to buying a BTO.
