It has taken a while, but the time has come. For BTO owners who had their BTO flat completed in 2019 and 2020, the 5-year Minimum Occupation Period (MOP) is finally reaching its end. Homeowners seeking a long-lasting home in a HDB flat, this is your chance.

Recap on MOP:

MOP is a period of time an HDB property owner is required to physically occupy the property before they can sell or rent the entire flat (only a portion of the flat can be rented out for PLH flats).

While there are cases in which you can sell before meeting the MOP rule, an appeal must be submitted to HDB as a prerequisite.
The MOP can vary among HDB flats, and in the case of flats under the Prime Location (PLH) Public Housing scheme, it extends to a duration of 10 years. Check out your flat’s MOP here.
