HDB’s 99-year lease has been a point of contention especially when the realisation that the lease on our homes could run out and not go under SERS. Diana Ser speaks to Ohmyhome’s home seller Adeline and Senior Real Estate Consultant Douglas Quah on their thoughts and tips on selling old HDB flats.
The unit featured in the interview is located at 6 Farrer Road, a top floor unit. We loved the unit from before we went in because of it’s amazing location (and the sellers are just great people). Located along Farrer Road across condominiums such as d’Leedon, there is an MRT right across, accessible through a sheltered walkway. Hawker and Empress Market are within walking distance, bus stop right outside and Holland Village is within minutes. Access to the expressway leading into the city is right around the corner. Void deck area is immaculately maintained.
Inside the Flat
The unit itself feels very exclusive because it is at the top floor and upon arrival on the staircase landing, there are only 2 units. The neighbour’s unit is obviously modern and well kept.
Our seller’s unit is a vacant 4 room flat. 2 of the bedrooms have been joint to become one large master bedroom and therefore the total bedrooms now stands at 2. Unit’s layout is squarish and spacious, a size of 91 sqm/ 979 sqft, priced at $595,000.
To enjoy the similar vicinity at d’Leedon condo, a unit at 85.38 sqm/ 919 sqft would cost $1,700,000.
We wanted to see the comfort of the space with furniture in it and invited our home staging partner Hygge Homey to turn the bare unit into a home. The results were magical! Instantly the place came alive. Comfortable dining room for 4-6 pax and a nice living area to snuggle up for a movie. Topping it off was a cozy relaxation room tucked away in the corner perfect for music, painting or a playroom. The master bedroom is a whole new world by itself, it is luxurious!
We find this unit highly suitable for young couples and young families looking for good space and accessibility. I do not recommend it for seniors because there are 2 floors of stairs from the elevator landing. Otherwise the stairs landing is a plus point because of the privacy it provides.
