Serangoon has the necessities that you need – you don’t have to go elsewhere, this is what Jessica thinks of Serangoon. Jessica is a Senior Graphics and Motion Artist in Singapore since 2016.
How Did You Discover Serangoon?
My friends were staying in Serangoon, they learned that I will be working in Singapore, so they offered me a vacant room in their flat. I didn’t think twice about it, I thought it was a perfect timing.
I didn’t research much about Serangoon before coming to Singapore. I only realized later that I was not at the wrong place. I have the whole room to myself without paying the same amount that others pay at the Central Business District (CBD).
What Do You Like Most About Serangoon?
Serangoon’s location is very strategic. I don’t have a hard time whenever I meet with my friends or move around Singapore. If I needed to go to the MRT Red Line, it’s only two stops away. If I need to go to the CBD via the Green Line, it’s only four stops away and Changi Airport is only 10 stops away. Public transportation from Serangoon is such a breeze!
What Do You Think You Are Missing on in Serangoon?
Nothing. I have my regular hair stylist at NEX Shopping Mall. When I feel like it, I can work out at the 24-hour Fitness Gym or take the train to Punggol Park which is only 5 stops away for a leisure walk or photography sessions. After work I never worry about food – there are plenty of food to choose from at NEX Food Court or at the nearby Hawker Centres. There’s also a 24-hour FairPrice Shop where I can buy my basic commodities any time of the day.
Serangoon is like a hybrid neighbourhood; it has a village and a city atmosphere. Village in a sense that it’s comparatively quiet, it’s not as jam-packed. It’s also a city because whatever there is in the city like the shopping malls or other entertainment facilities, you can also find it there. People think that the village feel is boring, but Serangoon is the exact opposite. That’s why I think it’s in-between. Whenever I am bored, I spend a lot of time in the Theatres or I go Shopping.
Is Serangoon a Home Away from Home?
Certainly. I can’t imagine myself living elsewhere in the city. I couldn’t ask for more in Serangoon.
