DIY Scandinavian Design, According to Shienna Reynon

If you scroll through the Instagram feed of Cebu-based content creator Shienna Reynon, you can definitely see why she is #TeamKahoy through and through. The neutral tones, emphasis on texture, and clean spaces are what Scandinavian design is all about. Out of it, she has managed to cultivate a design aesthetic that is uniquely her own.

From DIY organizing and decorating to appliance recommendations, she’s always been an advocate for expressing yourself through your home’s design. 

Since the pandemic, she has gotten even more productive with her home lifestyle content. Shienna also ended up focusing most of her time during quarantine on decorating her property. She even developed quite a gardening habit. “I filled it (her home) with plants,” she says of her indoor space. “I enjoy propagating them.”

These are where we can see her creativity take over. “I think that my content appeals to homeowners because I’m passionate about DIY activities,” Shienna tells Ohmyhome.

It is no coincidence that she spends most of her time in her living room, which she calls her “favorite spot” in the house. Shienna’s DIY design is on full display in the living space. Her interior boasts a breezy, al fresco feel, furnished with textured elements, touches of greenery, and simple shapes. Minimalism and functionality are evident all over.

What does she do when she’s not filming or creating something for her followers? Well, she’s just like us, too. “I do a lot of things here, like making breakfast, cooking for lunch and dinner, and watching my favorite K-Dramas. I just like to curl up on my sofa with a cup of coffee while watching TV.”

She, too, finds inspiration in websites like Pinterest. This is where, she says, the foundation for her design preferences was laid down. Those countless hours of going through different designs helped her envision her current home’s interior space. 

As to why she chose this design philosophy for her home, she explains, “I chose muted neutrals such as whites and neutral furniture pieces. So wood furniture complements white very well and it brings a sense of serenity into my home.” In particular, the Scandinavian elements that she loves are the wood accents and the plants she grows, of course.

Shienna also knows that designing doesn’t have to be a one-size-fits-all practice. As much as she posts photos of her home on her website to help her followers hone their own styles, she advises them to look for inspiration from other sources, too. “Let your interest guide your interior design,” she claims. “Just be yourself.”

This influencer is always looking forward to showing more of her DIY projects. On a regular day, when she’s not filming content, we can find her in Cebu property, chilling out with her cats. Much like her, we all just want a space to breathe. And if we can’t find that place, we should take a page out of Shienna’s book and just make one out of our own.
