When it comes to ranking the most liveable cities in the world for East Asian expats, Singapore comes in first place. This marks the 15th consecutive win for Singapore, which consistently outranks the other cities on the list due to its “excellent infrastructure and amenities, low crime rate and a large expat community.”
The other cities ranked by the human resources consultancy ECA International were Brisbane (second place) while Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Sydney all share third place rankings.
Hong Kong saw the most drastic drop, slipping twelve places to the 41st most liveable city.
As for Malaysian states, Kuala Lumpur and Georgetown both climbed the ranks, with 98th and 97th rankings respectively.
4 Reasons that Make Singapore the World’s Most Liveable Destination
1. Infrastructure
When it comes to the quality of infrastructure – this encompasses everything from the public transport system, facilities, availability of electricity and clean water, info-communications network, and everything that’s crucial to a country’s quality of life – Singapore’s is often deemed the best in the world.
2. Amenities
For a tiny red dot with a population of about 5.8 million people, Singapore’s abundance and easy access to public amenities are second to none. Think of establishments such as community centres, police posts, retail destinations, healthcare institutions, sports centres, schools, and parks.
3. Low Crime Rate
Put your worries to rest when you reside in a country where crime has remained consistently low. In 2017, a study by research firm Gallup found that 94% of Singaporeans feel safe walking alone at night. That’s a record-setting standard, considering the global average of only 68%.
4. Stable Property Market
There’s a reason why foreign property investors and expats flock to Singapore. The property market is closely monitored by the government, and as such, it remains stable. One example would be the implementation of cooling measures in 2018 by the Ministry of National Development to “moderate the residential property market cycle and keep price increases in line with economic fundamentals.”
Indeed, Singapore has tremendous offerings for foreign investors intending to hold a stable property asset as well as expats and their families who are looking to embark on an exciting new beginning.
