According to Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan, the testing of Stage 2 of Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) will be carried out from April to July 2020. TEL will comprise six stations – Springleaf, Lentor, Mayflower, Bright Hill, Upper Thomson, and Caldecott.
Services on Stage 1 of the TEL will close early and open later on weekends from April to July. This is necessary for thorough integrated testing, as the shorter operating hours will double the engineering hours.
TEL Stage 1 Stations
From April 3 to July 26, Stage 1 stations – Woodlands North, Woodlands and Woodlands South stations – will close at 10pm every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. They will also open later on Saturday and Sunday at 6.30am.
Commuters may use existing public bus services such as 901/M, 169, and 856 to travel to Woodlands or transfer to the North-South Line at Woodlands Station.
TEL Facts:
- Cost $25 billion to build
- Expected to complete by 2024
- It will be Singapore’s sixth and longest MRT line
- With 32 new stations and eight interchange stations
- Expected to serve 500,000 commuters daily, eventually rising to about one million
