In light of Malaysia’s travel restrictions, the Singapore Government will make available a range of short-term housing options for workers who commute frequently between Singapore and Malaysia. Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said on Monday (16 March 2020) night that this order will be imposed from 18 March to 31 March. This is to prevent further spread of COVID-19.
Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said on Tuesday that companies can encourage workers affected by the order to stay with their relatives, friends or colleagues. For those who are unable to do so, the Government has worked with private and public sectors on short-term housing options. This includes hotels, dormitories, rooms and whole property in HDB flats and private residential properties.
We have asked Ohmyhome’s HDB Sales Manager, Clarence Liang, on his views on this short-term stay for HDB flats in light of this event, he said, “Ohmyhome has hundreds of rental listings on our platform. Should there be any changes to the HDB regulations for renting out of HDB bedrooms or whole unit for short term accommodation, we are ready to render our assistance to match these listings to the demand.”
