According to a filing to Bursa Malaysia, Tambun Indah Land Berhad (Tambun Indah), a prominent Malaysian property developer, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Show Chwan Medical Care Corporation (Show Chwan), a healthcare operator based in Taiwan for the proposed development of a private specialist hospital located at Bandar Tasek Mutiara in Simpang Empat, Seberang Perai, Penang.
Envisioned as a multi-disciplinary medical centre with approximately 250 beds, the hospital, which will be called, “Show Chwan Hospital”, will be built on a four-acre parcel of land within Tambun Indah’s own township.
Once completed, the hospital will cater to the population of South Seberang Perai and Central Seberang Perai which includes various townships including Simpang Ampat, Valdor, Jawi, Bukit Mertajam, Bukit Minyak, and Juru. It will also service notable industrial parks within the area namely Prai Industrial Park, Penang Science Park, and Bukit Mertajam Industrial Park.
According to the Tambun Indah’s Board of Directors, the project, if established, shall also contribute to promoting Penang as a major medical tourism destination or hub in the region.
“The purpose of the MOU is for both parties to commit their intention and to strengthen their mutual understanding to set up a collaboration for the purpose of materialising the project and to carry out a feasibility study for the project. The MOU is in the best interest of the Group as it provides the opportunity for the Company to enhance its potential earnings and to improve its long-term growth prospects.”
Show Chwan manages a healthcare system in Taiwan and has its corporate office in Changhua City, Changhua County 500, Taiwan, Republic of China. Show Chwan owns and operates eight hospitals that provide a full range of medical specialties through various facilities. Currently, the hospitals have approximately 3,600 beds and more than 5,000 employees in its operations.
