Located in the West Region of Singapore, Jurong West is the second most populated new town in the country, home to a large demographic of residents.

What Makes Jurong West Town Interesting?

Created by the Housing and Development Board (HDB) after 1979, Jurong West has grown from a simple neighbourhood town into a key suburban residential and commercial district in Singapore.

How Many HDB Flats in Jurong West?

Jurong West is the largest town in the Western part of Singapore, and is home to an estimated 260,600 HDB residents. The HDB manages 73,510 flats in the town (as of 31 March 2017).

Why Should You Live in Jurong West?

Leisure

There is no reason to travel to downtown if you stay in Jurong West, as there are six shopping malls in the Jurong area, where you can find a good mix of local and international flagship stores, factory outlets and boutiques for your retail therapy needs at Westgate, Jurong Point and IMM.

Other amenities such as supermarkets, restaurants, movie theatres, swimming pool, fitness gym and an Olympic-sized ice skating rink are also available in the neighbourhood.

Healthcare

Medical facilities are also within easy access in Jurong West with the newly built, 700-bed Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and a 400-bed Jurong Community Hospital in the Jurong district.

Dining

Jurong West is also home to local delights such as nasi lemak, minced meat noodles, laksa and chicken rice. For coffee lovers who like to chill-out, there are also a handful of hipster cafes in the neighbourhood.

Thinking of enjoying cheap and good canteen food? Plan a campus canteen tour to the Nanyang Technological University and you will be rewarded with good eats at amazing prices!

Attractions

Get to know more about the history of Singapore and the Singapore Armed Forces by making a trip down to the Singapore Discovery Centre and Singapore Army Museum. Recap Singapore’s recent history before independence, and life of Singaporeans living under the flags of Britain, Japan and Malaysia.

Discover the magic of science at the Singapore Science Centre. This enlightening attraction holds the largest collection of educational materials devoted to science in Singapore.

For nature lovers out there, you can also enjoy the tranquillity in the Chinese and Japanese Gardens located around Jurong Lake, and get up close and personal with 5,000 birds from more than 400 species at Jurong Bird Park, one of Singapore’s most iconic attractions.

Any Future Plans for Jurong West?

With the recent launch of Genting Hotel Jurong and the Trade Association hub, we see a rising trend of commercial development in Jurong.

Exciting new projects for Jurong West which are in the pipeline include the building of the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR).

With Singapore’s terminus station located in Jurong East, the HSR link is expected to make it more seamless and convenient to travel in between Singapore and Malaysia.

Jurong West residents can also look forward to a brand new hawker centre. Located at Jurong West Street 61, the new hawker centre with 34 cooked food stores will be the fourth hawker centre in Jurong West.

Plans for a makeover of the Chinese and Japanese gardens are also on the way. The 40-year old gardens will receive an upgrade with new community spaces, tropical and aquatic gardens, as well as food and beverage outlets.

It’s time to go West!
