On 27 November 2019, my partner and I went down to HDB Hub for our very first flat selection appointment. The BTO we applied for was Tampines GreenGlen, launched in September 2019 at the same time as the Enhanced Housing Grant announcement.

When we later learned that the launch attracted 1,435 applicants with only 649 units on offer, we were counting our lucky stars that we somehow managed to score a low enough queue number that made the appointment possible.

Here’s why we chose our Tampines BTO for our first home

Future Transport Hub

At first glance, this BTO did not have the seamless connectivity that other mature BTO projects are coveted for. After some research, it was later discovered that transport hubs are in the pipeline to serve the future residents in Tampines Street 64. Tampines North MRT on the Cross Island Line will be scheduled for completion in 2029.

In the meantime, residents can commute via Tampines or Pasir Ris MRT station, which is just a short bus ride away.

Proximity to Retail Park

Bounded by Tampines North Drive 1 and Tampines Street 64, Tampines GreenGlen has a unique location, occupying the border of Tampines and Pasir Ris. Moreover, the residents of this development will be able to call substantial retail offerings such as IKEA, Courts Megastore and Giant Supermarket as humble neighbouring shops that can be easily reached by foot.

Smaller Project

A smaller project would mean an earlier completion date. Launched at the same time with two Punggol projects with a combined total of 3,903 units, the Tampines launch is considerably smaller with only six residential blocks and 649 units on offer. As compared to its Punggol counterpart, Tampines GreenGlen comprises of two unit types, namely 4 and 5-room flats.

True enough, the estimated completion date is slated to be anywhere from the first quarter of 2023 to the second quarter of 2023. At the earliest, Punggol Point Cove was scheduled to be in the fourth quarter of 2023. Similarly, Punggol Point Crown’s completion date was estimated to be in the third quarter of 2023.

When it comes to choosing our first home, Tampines GreenGlen definitely ticked all the boxes. Prime location notwithstanding, having a BTO in a mature town like Tampines means residents can enjoy staying in a brand new flat while being at the heart of everything the East has to offer.

If you’re not sure where to start, here’s a step-by-step guide to buying a BTO.
