Thinking of applying for a subsidized home from the National Housing Authority (NHA)? Keep in mind that the NHA provides housing to only a select few.
Only members of the following groups can apply for one of the agency’s housing programs.
- **service personnel** from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and Bureau of Corrections (BuCor)
- families **displaced** by calamities or government infrastructure programs
- **indigenous peoples** or ethnic groups that are the original inhabitants of certain areas and follow a traditional lifestyle
- **low-income families** who earn Php10,000 or less a month
Are You Eligible for the NHA’s Housing Programs?
If you answered yes, here’s an overview of the application process and requirements for NHA low-cost housing.
1. Low-ranking service personnel
Are you a low-ranking member of the AFP, PNP, BFP, BJMP, or BuCor? Then you may be qualified to avail of housing for service personnel. Coordinate with the Housing Committee of your branch of service to get more details and to apply.
Here are the NHA guides and forms for service personnel that are currently available online. Note that these may change without any prior notice.
2. Homeless low-income families/ informal settlers/ indigenous people
If you are from any of these groups, you can apply for NHA housing directly at the NHA at 5 Elliptical Road, Diliman, Quezon City, telephone number (02) 8790-0800, or at the NHA regional office near you.
The process of awarding of NHA residential units can last 13 days to the contract signing, and 7 days from payment of the last amortization to the release of the Deed of Cancellation and Release of Real Estate Mortgage (DCRREM).
You can also contact your local government unit (LGU), who partners with the NHA in their housing projects, to see if you qualify for low-cost housing.
3. Displaced families
Have you been displaced by a calamity like the recent Taal volcanic eruption or a government infrastructure project? Take advantage of the NHA’s resettlement program and emergency assistance housing program.
You can apply for NHA housing as soon as the agency has made it available. Contact the NHA head office at Diliman, Quezon City, or the regional office near you to apply or to get more details.
Note that the housing that the NHA provides are not free, but are subsidized by the government so beneficiaries can avail of it at affordable prices and terms.
