Ohmyhome Co-Founders sisters Race and Rhonda Wong faced quite the roadblock when they were planning to set up shop in the Philippines in 2020. Maneuvering around a global health crisis that hit Southeast Asian countries especially hard, they relied on three things to get the Ohmyhome Philippines launch over the hump. The first was a proven business model that led to their successful launches in Singapore and Malaysia in 2016 and 2019, respectively. Second, the team’s vision for an all-in-one property technology platform. And lastly, their faith in good, honest Filipino work.

“I knew Filipino culture from growing up in Singapore serving Filipinos. My first job helping out my parents’ photo developing shops was at Lucky Plaza, which is the Mecca of Singapore-based Filipinos,” Ohmyhome Chief Executive Officer Rhonda explains. “I have vivid memories of serving Filipinos because of their kindness.”

While the Philippine operations were only launched recently, the actual Philippine office was established in 2017, comprised of only the tech team. Ohmyhome Singapore Web Lead Herzon Garlan was one of them. At the time, he wanted to be able to go home to his family. The sisters knew how important it was for him, too.

“I then moved back home in October 2018 to help establish Ohmyhome Philippines after we hired three developers,” states Herzon, who shared the same vision as Rhonda and Race. “After meeting with the small tech team, seeing how passionate they were, and after hearing the company’s vision straight from Rhonda, I was convinced that I wanted to be part of Ohmyhome.”

Race says that Ohmyhome didn’t exactly set out to employ Filipinos at first. “We didn’t set a criteria to hire Filipinos but it all happened naturally because Filipinos are very talented!”

Her sister adds: “It isn’t necessarily the understanding of property that is the most important to us, but the understanding of how important homes are to Filipinos.”

Looking back at the past year, 18 major developers have onboarded to partner with Ohmyhome, more than 190 projects nationwide have been listed, and roughly 300,000 customers have come to Ohmyhome Philippines for a seamless housing transaction experience. Currently, the Philippines is the largest market out of the three countries Ohmyhome is in. 

“Being given the opportunity to serve each of our customers is a privilege for us,” Race claims. “We believe in a long-term relationship and service towards our customers. Even if they are not a customer of ours today, they could be one soon in the future.”

Race adds that launching during the pandemic also meant that Ohmyhome Philippines would have trouble reaching out to people in a more intimate setting. Of course, part of the struggle of pandemic life is establishing meaningful relationships and Ohmyhome is a company that values its relationships with the families, OFWs, and investors it serves.

To bridge the gap, Ohmyhome’s operations team works from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM to attend to all customers, from the initial inquiry to financing options and more. It’s like having a big family and one of the best things I love about Ohmyhome is the culture. So happy that everyone bought into it and continues to uphold it.”
